Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. The American Red Cross and North Harford Interfaith Community are joining together to host a blood drive at St. Mary’s Church, Pylesville, on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The continued shortage of blood nationwide is critical due to summer/vacation months and dangerous weather hitting the United States. Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. Blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. The need for Type O is most critical, while Types A, B, and AB remain constant. By rolling up a sleeve, donors can play a critical role in the treatment of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. Appointments are available from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. It is suggested that anyone wishing to donate schedule an appointment. Please arrive 5 minutes before or no later than 15 minutes after your appointment time to avoid losing your place in line. Walk-in donors are welcome; however, you may need to wait as donors with appointment times will be taken in order. Masks are not required when donating blood. If you are feeling sick that day or recently exposed to someone with Covid, please cancel your appointment. Scheduled donors are encouraged to do the online RAPID PASS on the day of your donation to streamline your donation process. Please bring verification of your completed rapid pass questionnaire answers. The Rapid Pass can be found on the REDCROSSBLOOD.ORG website or through the AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DONOR app. To schedule a time, please log-in to the Red Cross website at REDCROSSBLOOD.ORG and sign up for zip code 21132 or call Darlene at 410-404-8583 and leave a message. The church is located at 1021 St. Mary's Road, Pylesville, just off Rocks Road (Rt. 24).
